Christian Albrecht war ein Bruder Louise von Dohnas, die als Ehefrau des Floris Otto Heinrichs von Bylandt (1638 - 1701) die Herrin auf Rheydt war. Er heiratete 1644 Sophie Theodore, die Gräfin von Holland-Brederode. Sie hatten, damals durchaus üblich, zehn Kinder. Christian Albrecht war zuerst Offizier in holländischen Diensten unter Statthalter Friedrich Heinrich von Oranien (1584 - 1647), dem Onkel Louises, später trat er in kurbrandenburgische Dienste als Generalleutnant.
