The hand is the right hand from a life-size statue, and is associated with an arm fragment that is also in the Getty Museum’s collection (see 81.AA.178.1). The hand is held in a loosely clenched position with the fingers curled inward toward the palm. It is fully modeled and nails are indicated. The arm and hand are fleshy and probably belong to a female figure. These two fragments are probably from the same statue, since the marble appears to be of the same type, the scale is the same and the workmanship appears to be by one hand.
