Porträt des französischen Admirals Armand Jean Vignerod du Plessis, Herzog von Richelieu, Sohn des Generals François de Vignerot de Pontcourlay (1609-1646) und Großneffe des berühmten Kardinals Richelieu (1585-1642). Das Hüftbild zeigt den sitzenden, Leier spielenden Admiral in antikisierendem Gewand mit aufgebauschtem roten Mantel. Er trägt eine Allonge-Perücke und ein Bärtchen unter der Unterlippe. Durch die Leier führt der Blick zum Meer, auf dem eine Galeere fährt - unter Ludwig XIV. war du Plessis fast 20 Jahre lang General der Galeeren. Das Porträt wurde als angebliches Porträt Ludwigs XIV. erworben. Es handelt sich jedoch, wie stilistische Vergleiche des Musée de la Ville de Tours und des Musée de la Marine in Paris 1954 und 1955 erwiesen haben, um das Porträt du Plessis. Die Zuschreibung an den Maler Pierre Mignard ist unsicher.
