Selbstportrait des bärtigen Malers vor dunklem Hintergrund, Der Körper ist leicht nach rechts gedreht, die rechte Hand ist lässig in die Seite gestemmt, während sich die Linke auf einer Zeichenmappe in der Höhe einer Konsole aufstützt. Serr studierte an der Münchner Akademie zwischen 1824 und 1825. Er lies sich zunächst in Karlsruhe als Porträtmaler nieder und nahm 1848/49 an der Revolution teil. Nach einer kurzzeitigen Emigration lies er sich in Rhodt nieder. In den letzten 20 Lebensjahren wirkte Serr als Porträtmaler in Heidelberg.
