Vor ihrer Zerstörung 1689 war die Spornburg u. a. Sitz der obersten Barone des Reiches, der Ritter von Dalberg. 1771 errichtete ein Dalberg-Nachkommen aus den Trümmern im Hof der Unterburg ein Nachfolgegebäude. °Wasgau-Maler° Löscher war gelernter Bäcker und führte die Gaststätte °Wegelnburg° in Nothweiler.
