Gebirgige Landschaft mit bewölktem Himmel. Das Licht scheint bereits durch den nahenden Sonnenuntergang verzaubert. Im Hintergrund zwei höhere, kegelförmige Berge dunkelblau vor gelbem Gegenlicht. Im Mittelgrund Laubbäume, im Vordergrund Höhen mit Wiesen und Äckern. signiert 1937. Karl Philipp Spitzer war häufig in den Speyerer Rheinauen unterwegs und fand dort seine Motive, die er in einem schnellen Malakt auf die Leinwand brachte. Viele seiner Landschaften brachte er aber auch von Aufenthalten im Gebirge. Charakteristisch erscheint seine schnelle Arbeitsweise, die dem Moment, der spontanen Empfindung und Ausdrucksgabe des Malers verpflichtet ist. Bei einem Studienaufenthalt in Paris 1927 fertigte Carl Philipp Spitzer aber auch zahlreiche Zeichnungen mit Motiven der Welt der Bettler und Clochards an.
