Bildnis einer älteren Dame mit grauer Haube nach der Modes des späten 18. Jahrhunderts, die den Kopf umschloss. Längs des Haubenrands verlaufen Rüschen. Ein Band aus Tüll-Spitze schmükt die Stirn. Sie trägt ein graues Kleid mit schwarz-rot gemustertem Seidenschal und beigefarbene, lange Handschuhe. Hoffnas war ab 1760 für den Kurpfälzer Hof und Kurfürst Karl Theodor tätig. Dieser berief ihn 1773 als Lehrer an die Mannheimer Zeichnungsakademie und ernannte ihn 1777 zum Hofmaler. Johann Wilhelm Hoffnas war einer der begabtesten Porträtmaler seiner Epoche im kurpfälzischen Raum.
