Multitud de persones concentrades a la plaça Independència durant l'acte d'inauguració del monument a Àlvarez de Castro. Al centre de la imatge, al costat de l'escultura, les autoritats encapçalades pel Capità General de Catalunya Valerià Weyler Nicolau i l'alcalde Francesc de Ciurana Hernández. Darrera l'escultura s'observa l'arc construit per l'ocació. Els balcons estan decorats amb domassos.
