Das unsignierte Gemälde von Leonhard Schmidt entstand um 1925 in Stuttgart. Das Bild ist mit seinen klaren Linien in die Strömung der Neuen Sachlichkeit einzuordnen und zeigt einen für Schmidts Bilder charakteristischen Ausdruck von Einsamkeit. Schmidt zählte 1923 zu den Gründungsmitgliedern der Stuttgarter Sezession, die sich aus Protest gegen die Ausstellungspolitik des konservativen Künstlerbundes gebildet hatte.
