Fritz Nuss entdeckte das Gemälde von Eugen Stammbach in den 1970er Jahren im Keller einer Galerie, wo es im Zweiten Weltkrieg unter Kohlen versteckt worden war. Stammbach lebte in seiner Geburtsstadt Stuttgart und arbeitete im Städtischen Ateliergebäude in der Ameisenbergstraße, das in den 1930er Jahren Ausblicke auf idyllische Gartenlandschaften bot.
