Mit diesem Frauenakt steht Corinth in einer langen Tradition: Von Tizians Venus von Urbino über Francisco de Goyas Nackte Maja bis zu Édouard Manets Olympia reicht die illustre Reihe. Doch diese Frau schaut den Betrachter nicht an. Stattdessen präsentiert der Künstler ihren üppigen, weichen Körper auf einem zerwühlten Laken. Die Frau wird hier nicht als würdige Göttin oder selbstbewusste Prostituierte dargestellt, sondern als sinnliches Objekt, das sich lustvoll dem Betrachter hingibt. Dorothee Hansen
