This head was part of a larger statue, as indicated by the tenon at the base of its broad, flared neck, which would have been inserted into the body of the statue. The roundish face features eyes with thick, asymmetrical lids and a partly open mouth with fleshy lips. The hair is distinctively parted at the center in a “pincer” style and arranged around the face in lively curls, suggesting a Polykleitan influence. The back portion of the head is summarily modeled; a headdress and wreath, distinctive elements in the typology of banqueters, must have been applied separately before firing.
