1869 malten Monet und Pierre-Auguste Renoir gemeinsam an der Grenouillère, einem beliebten Ausflugslokal mit Badestelle an der Seine. Hier entwickelten sie den flirrenden Pinselstrich, der für den Impressionismus so typisch ist. Dabei entstand auch die Studie Boote. Das Bild stammt aus der Sammlung von Meta Schütte, der Gattin des Bremer Kaufmanns Franz Schütte. Dorothee Hansen
