Vallotton verbindet in seinem traumartigen Waldbild eine Naturlandschaft mit einer „paysage composé“, also einem durchkomponierten Landschaftsbild als Stimmungsträger. Ähnlich wie bei Henri Biva wird der Blick von Bäumen gelenkt und trifft dadurch auf eine Waldlichtung. Vallotton malt sehr fein und detailreich. Gleichzeitig vereinheitlicht und stilisiert er die einzelnen Blatt- und Pflanzenformen. Angesichts der natürlichen, fast wild wirkenden Grundordnung entsteht so eine surreal erscheinende Waldlandschaft. Hartwig Dingfelder
