Stahlstich von Johann Poppel (1807-1882) nach einer Vorlage von Richard Höfle (1812-1860). Er zeigt das Denkmal für den Buchhändler und Verleger Peter Schöffer (1425-1503), der als Mitarbeiter von Johannes Gutenberg den Buchdruck weiterentwickelte. Das Denkmal steht heute auf dem gleichnamigen Platz vor dem Stadtmuseum in Gernsheim. Die übergroße Sandsteinstatue, geschaffen 1836 vom Darmstädter Hofbildhauer Johann Baptist Scholl dem Älteren (1784-1845), ist in mittelalterlichem Stil mit Gelehrtenmütze gekleidet und hält in den Händen einen Setzkasten mit beweglichen Lettern.
