Als junge Malerin beeindruckte Seidler den längst berühmten Dichter Johann Wolfgang von Goethe derart, dass er sie fortan förderte. Sie studierte Malerei in München, da die dortige Akademie als einzige in Deutschland schon seit 1813 Frauen zuließ. Durch ein Stipendium lebte sie von 1818 bis 1823 in Rom. Dort hatte sie engen Kontakt zu den Nazarenern, besonders zu Philipp Veit. Auch Seidler verehrte die Malerei Raffaels. Das ist hier an den beiden allegorischen Frauengestalten zu erkennen. Die geflügelte Figur mit der Leier, die zum Himmel strebt, verkörpert die Fantasie. Die andere, die sich an ihr festhält, steht für die Erinnerung – sie blickt zurück zur Erde.
