Wie in den Bildern von Théodore Aligny (Inv. Nr. 923-1966/5) und Ernst Willers (Inv. Nr. 195-1947/8) steht auch hier ein markanter Baum im Mittelpunkt. Kerzengerade wächst diese Fichte am Ufer eines Bachlaufs. Belebt wird die stille, winterliche Szenerie von drei Damhirschen im Vordergrund. Obwohl seine Bilder zur Zeit der Romantik entstanden, arbeitete Van Os ganz in der Tradition der niederländischen Genremalerei. Seine meisterhaften Landschafts- und Tierdarstellungen komponierte er im Atelier. Häufig malte er Winterlandschaften. Dabei reizte ihn das Formenspiel von kahlen Laub- und grünen Nadelbäumen im diffusen Tageslicht.
