Bei der italienischen Landschaft handelt es sich trotz der geringen Größe um ein detailliert ausgeführtes Atelierbild. Es ist eine Komposition aus der Fantasie, basierend auf unterschiedlichen Naturstudien. Die Ortschaft ist eindeutig das Bergdorf Olevano nahe Rom. Das Meer fügte der Künstler einfach hinzu, und die Figuren im Vordergrund verleihen dem Werk den Charme des italienischen Volkslebens.
