Die Farben in dieser kleinen Ölskizze sind so dick und schwungvoll aufgetragen, dass sich die dargestellten Figuren erst auf den zweiten Blick erkennen lassen. Dann zeigt sich Maria mit einem Sternenkranz. Von Engeln umgeben fährt sie durch die Wolken in den Himmel auf. Mit dem Entwurf führte Maulbertsch vermutlich eine Idee für ein nicht erhaltenes Deckenbild vor. Gleichzeitig stellte er kunstvoll unter Beweis, wie spontan und frei er mit Licht und Farbe umgehen konnte.
