Modersohn zeigt eine heitere, lichte Sommerszene. Kinder vergnügen sich beim Baden, sie bewegen sich nackt und frei in der Natur. Mit dem Moorkanal, den Birken und der Bauernkate sind zugleich die Charakteristika der Worpsweder Landschaft eingefangen. Viele Künstler haben diese Landschaft vor allem als karg, rau und von einer gewissen Melancholie erfüllt geschildert. Hier aber ist eine andere Seite zu erleben: Jugend, Freude, Helligkeit und Fülle.
