Set at a precarious angle, this captivating landscape offers a scenic view of trees from the bend in a winding path. Over a lightly sketched underdrawing in charcoal, the artist conjures rolling grassy hills, a rocky outcropping, and an overgrown footpath through broad strokes of translucent watercolor. He exerted a sharper and almost frantic application of color in the sinewy trunk of the tree at center and the dramatic spray of foliage down the slope to the right. Boldini signed the work in the bottom left corner, signaling its status as a finished work of art.
