Philipp Kilians Kupferstich aus dem Jahr 1659 zeigt das von einem ovalen Rahmen umfasste Porträt Samuel Capricornus (eigentlich Samuel Friedrich Bockshorn), der ab 1657 Hofkapellmeister Herzog Eberhards III. von Württemberg war. Er ist als Halbfigur vor einem dunkel schraffierten Hintergrund gezeigt, den Körper nach rechts gewendet. Die linke Hand hält er in einem Gestus erhoben, die rechte in die Hüfte gestützt. Über das untere Ende des mit Capricornus' Namen und Amt beschrifteten Rahmens legt sich ein entrolltes Blatt mit Noten und Text für einen sechsstimmigen Kanon. Darunter befindet sich eine Kartusche mit einem Widmungsspruch. Der gesamte Aufbau ist mit Rankenornamenten verziert. Das Porträt entstand nach dem Gemälde eines Künstlers, der in der Inschrift mit den Initialen "NL" benannt wird; eventuell handelt es sich um den Hofmaler Georg Nikolaus List.
