Bei der Zeichnung handelt es sich um eine Skizze zum später angefertigten Gemälde mit dem Titel: "Auf der Eisenbahn" (SFPM-CBS/72). Das Gemälde entstand im Jahre 1827 und zeigt eine humorvolle Winterlandschaft, welche eigenartig das Motiv einer etwas schrillen Gnomengruppe mit dem elegisch-romantischen Motiv der Kirche in einer Winterlandschaft verbindet. Es erinnert damit auch an Blechens "Gotische Kirchenruine im Winter mit schneeballenden Jungen", die allerdings um 1823/25 datiert wird.
