Das Gemälde, gerahmt, ist einer Sterbeszene gewidmet. Eine junge Frau liegt im Bett im Sterben. Eine ältere Frau, vermutlich die Mutter, hat sich zu ihr hinabgebäugt und hält ihren Kopf. Ein Kind kniet am Bett und hält sich vor Trauerschmerz das Gesicht, sein Rücken ist dem/der BetracherIn zugewandt. Ein Mann steht mit dem Rücken zum Bett und hält sich ebenfalls vor lauter Schmerz und Trauer das Gesicht. Neben ihm eine weitere nicht vollständig erkennbare Person. Dagegen im rechten Bildvordergrund eine Nonne/Ordensschwester in Gebetshaltung. Über dem Bett ist der untere Teil eines Kruzifixes (Wandschmuck) erkennbar.
