Julie Hartmann (1795-1869) war die Tochter von Johann Georg August von Hartmann (1764-1849) und Marianne geb. Dannenberger. Ihr Vater war zunächst Lehrer an der Hohen Carlsschule in Stuttgart, nach deren Auflösung 1793 hatte er hohe Ämter in der Württembergischen Verwaltung inne. Er ließ seinen vier Töchtern eine sehr gute Ausbildung zukommen, ferner war das Haus der Familie ein bedeutsamer geistiger Treffpunkt in Stuttgart. Das oval geformte Porträt, das Franz Seraph Stirnbrand malte, zeigt Julie Hartmann im Brustausschnitt. Sie ist ins Dreiviertelprofil nach rechts gewendet. Die blauvioletten Seidenrüschen ihrer Haube heben sich leuchtend von dem grünen Hintergrund des Bildnisses ab.
