Das posthum entstandene Bildnis zeigt König Wilhelm I. von Württemberg (reg. 1816-1864) als modernen Monarchen mit bescheidenem Auftreten. In Uniform steht er an einem einfachen Arbeitstisch. Mit einem Schriftstück beschäftigt, arbeitet er zum Wohl des Landes - so, wie auch seine früh verstorbene, im Volk unvergessene Gattin Katharina dies getan hat, an die mit einer Marmorbüste im Hintergrund erinnert wird. Das Gemälde wird Georg Friedrich Erhardt zugeschrieben.
