A cased set of 15 Bore Flintlock dueling Pistols., Made by John Manton who is considered the finest British gun maker of the 18th and part of the 19th Centuries. Expertly reconverted from percussion drum and nipple, with rebrowned twist octagonal sighted barrels, each signed in gold capitals along the top flat, silver for-sights, brecches each with gold and gold-lined touch-hole, border engraved tangs each finely engraved with a marshal trophy, starburst and foliage, flat beveled detented flat locks each signed in capitals and with a small roller bearing on a ramp on the steel-spring, figured full stocks each with chequered rounded butt apart from the pommel and a plain strip along each side, trigger-guards each with large pineapple engaved with the owners initial ‘P’, barons coronet above, and original horn-tipped ramrods: in a fitted mahogany case with some accessories including three-way powder-flask, the body covered in red leather, the interior of the lid with John Manton & Son reproduced trade label, the exterior mahogany case with a brass escutheon centered on a flush-fitting circular brass carrying handle, London proof marks 9.53″ barrels. This set by this renouned gunmaker would fit in with anyones great collection.
