Ähnlich wie Max Liebermann oder Emile Nolde legte auch Vogeler einen eigens entworfenen Garten an. Er war ein wichtiger Teil seines Gesamtkunstwerks Barkenhoff. Mehrfach hat der Künstler den Garten in Gemälden und Radierungen dargestellt. Hier zeigt er die Blütenpracht im Frühling. Dekorative Blumenbeete, die Vasen, ein Rundweg und eine hölzerne Laube bilden durch ihre stilvolle Gestaltung einen Kontrast zu den bäuerlichen Nutzgärten auf dem Lande. Heute ist der Garten rekonstruiert, der Barkenhoff kann als Museum besichtigt werden.
