Die Dorflandschaft war der zweite Ankauf des 1823 gegründeten Kunstvereins in Bremen. 1625 hatte Van Goyen dieses Frühwerk im anspruchsvollen Großformat signiert. Ein besonderer Blickfang ist die bootfahrende Gesellschaft: Vornehme Damen und Herren aus der Stadt genießen bei Wein, Tabak und Musik ihren Ausflug aufs Land. Das Motiv lädt zum Vergleich mit der Bootspartie in dem Gemälde von Adriaen van de Venne (Inv. Nr. 1637-2017/30) ein. Dort ist eine höfisch-mondäne Gesellschaft zu sehen, die im Boot zu einem Schloss mit Park hinüberfährt. Bei Van Goyen dagegen gleitet der Kahn durch die einheimische bäuerliche Landschaft.
