Das Blatt gehört zu einer Reihe von Porträtskizzen, die Joseph Joachim von Schnizer 1814 im Zusammenhang mit Gemälden zu den napoleonischen Feldzügen schuf. Die Zeichnung zeigt Kronprinz Friedrich Wilhelm, den späteren König Wilhelm I. von Württemberg, in ganzer Figur in einer Landschaft. Er trägt eine Uniform mit Säbel, in der linken Hand hält er einen Feldstecher. Sein Blick ist auf eine entrollte Karte gerichtet, die am linken unteren Blattrand auf einem Stein liegt. Hinter ihm erscheinen berittene Soldaten. Die Zeichnung entstand wohl vorbereitend zu einem Gemälde (heute Staatsgalerie Stuttgart), das mehreren grafischen Reproduktionen als Vorlage diente (vgl. Inv.-Nr. 9050/02586, 9050/06426, 9050/07665).
