Der Farbdruck reproduziert ein Gemälde von Anton Graff, das in den Jahren 1786–91 entstand und den Dichter Friedrich Schiller zeigt. Das Gemälde befindet sich heute im Stadtmuseum Dresden. Das Blatt hingegen erschien in der "Leipziger Illustrirten Zeitung". Vor einem dunklen, nach rechts hin heller auslaufenden Hintergrund sitzt der Dichter in Halbfigur an einem Tisch. Den Kopf hat er auf die linke Hand gestützt, seinen Blick den Betrachtenden zugewandt.
