Nils Kreuger bildade tillsammans med Karl Nordström och Richard Bergh på 1890-talet Varbergsskolan som stod för ett nytt slags landskapsmåleri. Detta motiv visar vårbruket i den särpräglade halländska naturen. Samtidigt är den stilistiskt är besläktad med verk av bland andra Gauguin och Van Gogh. Detta märks till exempel i de skarpa konturerna av åkerns nyplöjda fåror. Ramen är också skulpterad av konstnären.
