Denna fashionabla dam färdas genom Paris tillsammans med sin lilla knähund i en så kallad landå – motsvarigheten till dagens limousin. Landåns fönsterrutor gick att veva ned i samband med att suffletten fällts så att vagnen blev helt öppen. Den var dessutom låg vilket gav maximal synlighet av passagerarna och deras kläder. Damen i landån har ingen känd identitet. Hon symboliserar en ”typ” eller företeelse i Paris gatubild snarare än en enskild individ – en modern, rik, moderiktigt klädd kvinnan som vill synas.
