Under 1880-talet arbetade Zorn främst i akvarell. Virtuost skildrade han reflexer och andra ljuseffekter i bilder av vardagliga situationer. Modellen här är Emma Lamm som gifte sig med Zorn i oktober samma år som akvarellen är målad. Förmodligen kom den till under bröllopsresan som gick över Wien och Budapest till Konstantinopel. Betraktaren ser Emma i motljus, snett underifrån. Solen lyser igenom hennes japanska parasoll med målad dekor.
