Das Porträt zeigt die Großherzogin Sophie von Baden (1801-1865) als Halbfigur in einem modischen, über dem Busen gerafften, dekolletierten, blauen Seidenkleid. Unter den bauschigen, weißen Puffärmeln aus Mousseline erkennt man noch die blauen Ärmel des Kleides. Die Brosche am Ausschnitt sowie die Perlenkette und das Diadem im hochgesteckten Haar lassen auf ein offizielles Bildnis schließen.
