Deze plafondschildering is afkomstig uit een huis in Leiden (Rapenburg 48) en hangt hier sinds 1912. Op het ovale middenstuk is Apollo te zien, de klassieke god van de kunsten. Hij wordt omringd door zijn negen muzen die voor de verschillende kunstdisciplines staan. De vier grisailles rondom stellen het treurdicht, het blijspel, de herderszang en het heldendicht voor. De Amsterdamse Jacob de Wit was in de 18de eeuw dé kunstenaar die dit soort illusionistische hoogstandjes kon maken.
