Michiel de Ruyter, Admiraal ter Zee, won glorieus van de Engelsen tijdens de Vierdaagse Zeeslag in 1666. Ter herinnering liet hij zich portretteren door de Amsterdamse portretschilder Bol. Op de achtergrond is een zeegezicht te zien met De Ruyters vlaggenschip. Het portret zit nog in zijn originele, 17de-eeuwse lijst. Het is een vergulde trofeeënlijst met een schitterende verzameling van wapentuig: trommels, vaandels, kanonnen en kruitvaten. Midden boven staat De Ruyters familiewapen.
