Deze lezende vrouw is de piepjonge Wilhelmina van Pruisen. Ze was amper 16 jaar oud toen ze werd uitgehuwelijkt aan prins Willem V, de stadhouder van Holland. Kort na hun huwelijk liet het paar zich enkele malen portretteren door de Deense schilder Ziesenis. De bruid was het nichtje van de Pruisische koning Frederik de Grote. Ze bleek een stuk daadkrachtiger dan haar man.
