De apostelen Petrus en Johannes zijn op weg naar de tempel en treffen een verlamde bedelaar. In plaats van geld schenken ze de man genezing. Ze verrichten hun wonder in een zuidelijk boslandschap met een waterval, rotsen en klassieke tempels. Van Huysum was gespecialiseerd in stillevens, maar schilderde ook dit soort landschappen. Dit werk hoort bij een ander schilderij dat eenzelfde geïdealiseerde wereld laat zien die aan Italië doet denken.
