In 1647 was Ter Borch in de Duitse stad Münster waar vredesbesprekingen werden gevoerd. Hij portretteerde er de onderhandelaars. Caspar van Kinschot was de jongste van de Hollandse delegatie. Zijn jeugd wordt benadrukt door zijn modieuze lange haar en kraag. Het portret is klein – zo kon Van Kinschot het makkelijk mee terug nemen naar Den Haag.
