Die Tafelbilder der Nachkriegszeit markieren am Beginn der mittleren Schaffensphase einen qualitativen Höhepunkt in Klees Werk. 1919/20 entstand die Gruppe der „rhythmischen Baumlandschaften“. Neben „Kamel (in rhythm. Baumlandschaft)“ zählen die Werke „Rhythmie der Fenster und Tannen“, 1919.204, „Rhythmie herbstlicher Bäume“, 1920.40, „Rhythmische Baumlandschaft“, 1920.41, sowie einige zum Teil anders betitelte Werke in diese Gruppe.
