A tábua que representa a Aparição do Anjo a São Roque foi pintada por Gaspar Dias para o retábulo de uma capela implantada no local da cabeceira da primitiva ermida de São Roque, já na Casa Professa da Companhia de Jesus em Lisboa, administrada pela Confraria colocada sob a proteção deste santo, em meados da década de 1580. De acordo com a hagiografia, neste episódio, São Roque retratado como romeiro e peregrino recebe a visita do anjo enviado por Deus para lhe tratar as chagas com bálsamos e água para estancar a sua sede febril, após ter sido contaminado pela peste durante a sua missão assis…
