Contemporary Art in the Belvedere Garden, Vienna, AT Iman Issa's minimalist seeming sculptures are part of her series Heritage Studies, which she started back in 2015. They reference classic objects from ethnographic and anthropological collections like vessels, mosaic floors, tiles, musical instruments, or pieces of jewelry. Accompanying object labels describe the sculptures in objective, matter-of-fact. By playing with the familiar and unexpected, with collective memory, and newly ascribed meanings, the artist turns our attention to objects' multiple lives and their display and presentation in museums. The sculptures thereby draw on a stylistic idiom specially developed by Issa.
