In een dorp wordt kermis gehouden. Er wordt gegeten, gedronken, gedanst en gezoend. Links is te zien hoe een man moet overgeven – het nare bijeffect van zoveel mateloosheid. David Vinckboons verhuisde aan het eind van de 16de eeuw van Vlaanderen naar Amsterdam. Daar introduceerde hij het thema van de boerenkermis – een nieuwigheid in Holland. Verzamelaars uit de keurige burgerij vonden Vinckboons’ boeren en hun lage lusten vooral vermakelijk.
