Suzanna wil juist een bad nemen als twee oude mannen uit de bosjes opduiken. Ze kijkt geschrokken op – de mannen rechts achter haar zijn nauwelijks te zien in het donker. De twee proberen Suzanna tot seks te dwingen, door te dreigen lasterpraat te zullen verspreiden. Rembrandt gaf Suzanna in het volle licht weer, waardoor ze in al haar naaktheid nog kwetsbaarder lijkt. Hij schilderde geen geïdealiseerde vrouw, maar een van vlees en bloed. De afdruk van haar uitgetrokken kousen staat nog in haar kuiten.
