Op een zandpad staan wat wandelaars te praten in de zon. Het pad splitst zich en voert rechts het donkere eikenbos in en links naar wat huizen. Door het silhouet van de afgebroken boom en het licht in de verte creëerde Govaerts veel diepte in het landschap. De Antwerpse schilder Abraham Govaerts was gespecialiseerd landschappen en was waarschijnlijk een leerling van Jan Brueghel de Oude.
