Deze twee schilderijtjes zijn kopieën naar Italiaanse werken. De voorstelling met de blinden die in een kuil tuimelen is naar een schilderij van Domenico Fetti, het schilderij met Venus en Cupido naar Paris Bordone. Teniers maakte de kopieën om er etsen van te laten maken. Ze waren bedoeld voor zijn Theatrum Pictorium, een boek over de Italiaanse schilderijen in de aartshertogelijke verzameling in Brussel.
