Measuring 200 x 200 cm, the monochromatic work is composed of individual rolling papers fixed to the wall in a regular gridded pattern. Because the paper is intended for rolling cigarettes, only a narrow strip is gummed, creating a regular pattern but also an element of ephemerality as the lower part of each paper sticks up slightly from the wall. The combination of compositional order and a material associated with daily use is characteristic of Jac Leirner's practice which often combines the formal stricture of minimalist seriality and the evocative use of found materials characteristic of Arte Povera, while at the same time offering commentary on social codes.
