Still Processing presents a vivid, organic interior that appears at once bodily, technological, and fantastical. Beatrice Marchi depicts a laparoscope — a camera used in surgery —, or probe, leading the eye toward a dark glass rectangle embedded in the painted surface. This screen-like element interrupts the image, blocking the view onto the dense, fleshy space behind it. The title could suggest several forms of “processing”: digital processing, emotional processing, and even bodily digestion. Marchi turns the screen into both an object of attention and an obstacle, pointing to the way everyday technologies mediate and reshape lived experience. Rather than offering clarity, the black surface creates a blind spot at the centre of the image. As in much of Marchi’s work, humor and unease coexist. The painting combines theatrical exaggeration, bodily imagery, and a sense of psychological instability, transforming the screen into a contemporary prop through which questions of perception and intimacy, are staged.
