The publication presents a “very fine selection” (as stated by Ensor) of six scenes from the twenty-six that make up the spectacle Flirt de marionnettes. Ensor composed the ballet in 1906, produced the text and illustrations in 1907, and completed the music in 1911. The first performance took place in Ostend in 1913, followed by Brussels (Giroux) in 1920, Antwerp in 1924, and Liège in 1927.
